This development of 5 houses was built on a small area of land left over from earlier surrounding developments. The design of the houses was determined by the need to maximise the use of internal space, create outside space and ensure a degree of privacy for the surrounding homes as well as the new ones.

The building is triangular in plan, with four of the houses running in strips from front to back, each becoming progressively shorter. The fifth house occupies a corner of the triangle. Acces to the houses is via a narrow pathway at the font of the building.

All of the houses have some outside space. For the smaller houses, this consists of terraces accessed from the second floor. The larger houses have additional terraces on the ground floor. The main feature of the building is at the rear. This consists of a kind of frame that defines the boundary of the building and blends with the back walls of the smaller houses. This fulfills a number of functions. It separates the ground floor terraces from the outside and provides a wall for the upper level terraces. The frame is designed to allow as much light in to the houses as possible but also contains glass screens in certain places to preserve privacy.

The building demonstrates how a modern design can provide optimum living spaces for unusual and difficult sites.
