Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2009

Kazuyo Sejima & Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA, 2009
Pavilion | Kensington Gardens, W2
12 July - 18 October 2009

The 2009 pavilion took the form of an amorphous, thin canopy made from polished aluminium that curved between the trees. The highly reflective surface of the canopy and the thin columns used to support it gave the pavilion a lightweight and delicate feel particularly compared to the rather overbearing structures from the previous few years. Although glass partitions were used to enclose some spaces, views across the park were not blocked. The plan encouraged access from multiple points and routes through the pavilion to other parts of the park.

Photos taken September 2009.
